A component of Alcian Blue pH 2.5 and Alcian Blue-P.A.S. staining kits.
Sodium tetraborate solution is used as a component of the Alcian Blue pH 2.5 kit, as well as Alcian Blue – P.A.S. kit. Alcian Blue pH 2.5 kit enables visualization of acid mucins and it does not stain sulfate mucins; Alcian Blue – P.A.S. kit is used for detecting acid mucopolysaccharides according to Mowry. Rinsing solutions are of the same pH value, making the reaction more specific.
