Introduction
Kovac indole reagent is used to determine the ability of a certain organism (bacteria) to split indole from the tryptophan with intracellular tryptophanases. Indole reacts with p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde and creates a red compound.
Reagent for identification of indole-positive and indole-negative microorganisms.
