Introduction
Histology, cytology and other related scientific disciplines study the microscopic anatomy of tissues and cells. In order to demonstrate good tissue and cellular structure visualization, the samples need to be stained in a correct manner. Biebrich Scarlet powder dye is a component of Shorr’s solution used in hormonal cytodiagnostics for monitoring cyclic change in the ovarian activities. It is also used in trichrome staining methods in histopathology, such as staining collagen fibers according to Masson, where it is used as plasma dye instead of Fuchsin Acid dye. One of the properties of Biebrich Scarlet dyes is that they do not change color in wide pH value ranges, which enables alkaline solutions of this dye to be used for selective staining of extremely basic proteins.
